The Caribbean Oxford Initiative - CaribOx for short - is a new visiting fellowship and travel grant programme designed to stimulate purposeful and long-lasting collaboration between researchers from institutions in the Caribbean and the University of Oxford. The programme aims to be a nucleus for world-class international research and knowledge exchange across disciplines and across career paths and stages.
CaribOx is informed by advice received from an interdisciplinary and transnational Steering Committee and Advisory Board from the Caribbean and elsewhere. Funding, in the first instance, is provided by All Souls College as one of several steps addressing its Codrington Legacy.
How can I get involved with CaribOx?
For researchers in the Caribbean there are two pathways for cross-institutional collaboration between the Caribbean and Oxford:
Visiting Fellowships provide established researchers at Caribbean institutions with a twelve month affiliation with the University of Oxford, including ten months virtual engagement and a two month in-person visit to Oxford during Trinity Term (May-June.) Visiting Fellows collaborate with a member of staff at the University of Oxford providing an opportunity for new relationships to be forged between the Caribbean and the University of Oxford.
Travel Grants are available for early to mid-career researchers to allow two to four week research visits to the University of Oxford.
The scheme is administered by TORCH with opportunities that are open to researchers across all divisions and departments.
Watch the information session from July 2025 to find out more about the schemes available, what they offer and how to apply.
