CaribOx Academic Lead Professor María del Pilar Blanco is featured by the University of Oxford in a wide-ranging exploration of her research into Caribbean and Latin American literature, culture and colonial history. Her work examines how the past continues to inhabit the present, using ideas of ghosts and haunting to explore the lasting traces of colonialism, displacement and social change across the Americas. The feature also highlights her research into Cuba and Puerto Rico, US imperial expansion in the Caribbean, and the complex relationship between colonial power, humanitarianism and ideas of “progress”. Professor Blanco's work aligns closely to CARIBOX’s commitment to celebrating and deepening understanding of the Caribbean’s rich and multifaceted cultural heritage.
