CaribOx Visit

During my CaribOx visit at the University of Oxford, I worked on biodiversity conservation research with a strong emphasis on insect taxonomy and the use of insect communities as indicators of environmental change.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen ongoing research on pollinating insects and dragonflies (Odonata) across environmental gradients in Haiti while developing new collaborations with researchers working in community ecology, ecosystem functioning, agroecology, and conservation science. Through interactions with Oxford researchers and the collections of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, I explored opportunities to enhance taxonomic capacity, improve biodiversity monitoring programmes, and develop future collaborative initiatives that support evidence-based conservation strategies in Haiti and the wider Caribbean region.

More broadly, the visit reinforced the importance of international scientific collaboration in addressing biodiversity challenges and advancing conservation efforts in regions where taxonomic expertise and ecological data remain limited. The experience also helped establish valuable academic networks that will contribute to future research, capacity building, and conservation action in the Caribbean.
